Set up call forwarding for your carrier
Dial one code on your business phone so that only the calls you do not answer forward to your Catchline number.

On this page
Forwarding is conditional: busy, unanswered and unreachable calls go to Catchline, answered calls do not. You dial the code once. The Phone step of setup and Settings, Phone and forwarding show the codes for your saved carrier with your own number filled in.
Before you dial
- Choose your Catchline number first (the Phone step of setup). The code contains it.
- Dial from the business phone whose calls you want to protect, not from another phone.
- Know who your carrier is. Prepaid brands use their parent network's code: Visible and Xfinity Mobile use Verizon, Cricket uses AT&T, and Mint, Metro and Sprint use T-Mobile.

Landline or office phone
A desk phone, VoIP line, or PBX.
To turn on
Ask your provider for
Conditional call forwarding, for busy, no answer, and unreachable, to (555) 010-2040. Not unconditional forwarding.
Turn off
To turn it off
Ask the same provider to remove the conditional forwarding.
Google Voice or Fi
Forwarding lives in the Google app.
To turn on
Google Voice
Open the Voice app or voice.google.com, go to Settings, then Calls, and forward unanswered calls to (555) 010-2040.
Google Fi
Open the Fi app, go to Phone settings, then Call forwarding, and forward unanswered calls to (555) 010-2040.
Turn off
To turn it off
Remove the forwarding number in the same screen.
Wait for the confirmation tone or message before hanging up. Codes vary by carrier and plan: if one does not work, your carrier's support line can switch on conditional call forwarding to (555) 010-2040 for you.
Landlines, VoIP and Google Voice
Office phones, VoIP lines and PBX systems set forwarding with the provider rather than with a dial code. Ask for conditional call forwarding (busy, no answer and unreachable) to your Catchline number, and say clearly that you do not want unconditional forwarding, which would send every call to Catchline and stop your phone ringing. Google Voice and Google Fi set forwarding inside their apps; the table above names the exact screens.
Do not turn on unconditional forwarding
Codes such as *72 forward every call, including the ones you would have answered. Use the conditional codes above so your phone still rings first.
Then test it
A test call proves the whole chain, from your carrier to the text on your phone. See Make your first test call.
Turning it off
Dial the turn-off code for your carrier (in the table) and calls stop forwarding. Your Catchline number and account stay as they are. If you only want a break from text-backs, pause protection instead: calls are still logged and you can resume in one tap.
